Environmental Policy

At Hatz, protection of the environment is considered to be a principal element of the company’s corporate objectives. We are fully aware of the fact that – despite all efforts – our activities have an adverse effect on the environment. It is therefore our responsibility to reduce this burden to a minimum. In so doing we want to encourage environmental protection not only within the framework of legal stipulations, but go beyond this and also appropriately and continuously reduce adverse environmental effects in an economically feasible way.
For Hatz, protection of the environment is not only related to the company’s products but to all corporate activities. With a responsible way of thinking and acting we intend to improve our environmental protection campaign. We plan to accomplish the following tasks:

• Establish definite environmental targets and define and furnish the means and measures necessary to achieve such targets in order to ensure a continual improvement in environmental protection.
  
  
• Foster our employees’ sense of responsibility for the environment across all organizational levels by means of training courses and furnishing information.

In the product development area, the following aspects have to be taken into account:

• ecologically friendly use of materials
  
  
• clean production processes

• Verification and assessment of environmental effects caused by our business and production processes, and their correction if necessary.
  
  
• We intend to reduce the environmental burden caused by emissions and waste, and eliminate it as much as possible, and use energy and natural resources carefully.
  
  
• With regard to the acquisition of new plants, environmentally acceptable variants will be preferred. We will orient ourselves to the state of the art and economic feasibility.
  
  
• We take measures to avoid or minimize environmental burdens which could be caused by accidents, in order to protect our employees against health impairments.
  
  
• When using new manufacturing and auxiliary material, and applying new production processes environmental and health compatibility is taken into account and assessed. We orient ourselves to the state of the art and economic feasibility.
  
  
• We commit ourselves to keep our safety facilities in good working condition and take organisational steps in this respect to prevent accidents from occurring or minimize their effects to a large extent. To meet these requirements our plants and facilities are subject to regular inspections and we cooperate with the responsible authorities.
  
  
• We maintain an open and objective dialogue with our customers, the public and the relevant authorities. In so doing we aim to evaluate ecological requirements in a joint effort and take them into account appropriately in our activities.
  
  
• The Hatz management makes sure that all areas of its Ruhstorf production site comply with governmental and legal environmental stipulations and any other requirements. This calls for regularly updated information on environmental and safety-relevant legislation as well as contact with the relevant bodies and authorities in an atmosphere of trust.
  
  
• Companies that are active on the Hatz premises are bound by contract to observe our environmental standards and the resultant measures.
  
  
• Contracts are only awarded to those companies that – as far as this can be identified by Hatz – comply with the legal regulations when executing their activities.
  
  
• We verify the measures taken within the framework of our environmental policy by means of internal audits and then take corrective action whenever necessary.
